How to check organic traffic in Google Analytics 4

Unfortunately, the traditional "Organic Traffic" report you might be familiar with from previous versions of Google Analytics isn't readily available in Google Analytics 4 (GA4). The Search Console collection of reports, which included the Google organic search traffic report, is unpublished by default. However, there are still ways to check your organic traffic in GA4 with some adjustments:

1. Acquisition Overview Report:

  • Go to Reports > Acquisition.
  • Look at the Traffic Acquisition chart on the top half of the page. It shows the top channels driving users to your site, which might include "Organic Search".
  • However, "Organic Search" is a channel grouping, not a specific report. Clicking on it won't show detailed organic traffic data.

2. Custom Exploration:

  • Go to Explore > Create Exploration.
  • In the Dimensions panel, search for "medium" and select "medium == organic".
  • Click Add dimension and choose "source".
  • Click Run exploration.
  • This will show you a table with your organic traffic data, including source (e.g., Google, Bing) and other metrics like sessions, users, and engagement.

3. Google Search Console Integration:

  • Connect your Google Search Console account to GA4.
  • This unlocks the Engagement > User engagement report, where you can filter by "session medium" and select "organic".
  • This report provides some basic organic traffic data like clicks, impressions, and average position.

Additional Notes:

  • While these methods provide insights into your organic traffic, they might not offer the same level of detail as the dedicated "Organic Traffic" report from previous versions.
  • Google is constantly evolving GA4, and the availability of reports and features might change. Stay updated on the latest developments to access the most efficient ways to track your organic traffic.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions about using GA4.
